Improving Water Use Efficiency through Reduced Irrigation for Sustainable Cotton Production

چکیده

The socio-economic development of a country is highly dependent on water availability. Nowadays, increasing scarcity major global challenge. Continuing improvements in water-use efficiency are essential for cotton production sustainability. Reduced irrigation could be solution to shortage the arid climate without compromising yield. Therefore, two-year field study was conducted assess effect two levels i.e., 50% and 100% available content (AWC) yield four genotypes (CIM-678, CIM-343, CRIS-613, CYTO-510). maximum seed observed CIM-678, which 2.31 2.46 Mg ha−1 under AWC during 2018 2019, respectively, non-significantly reduced by 7.7 8.94%, owing deficit irrigation. use (WUE) 0.55 0.64 Kg mm−1 significantly higher than WUE at both years. Leaf area index physiological parameters such as photosynthesis rate, transpiration stomatal conductance were not affected So, it concluded that technique performed well significant loss, improve WUE, saved 37 cm used other crops or increase crop.

WATER USE EFFICIENCY Deficit irrigation in grapevine improves water-use efficiency while controlling vigour and production quality

Grapevine irrigation is becoming an important practice to guarantee wine quality or even plant survival in regions affected by seasonal drought. Nevertheless, irrigation has to be controlled to optimise source to sink balance and avoid excessive vigour. The results we present here in two grapevine varieties (Moscatel and Castelão) during 3 years, indicate that we can decrease the amount of wate...

Improving Cotton Irrigation Scheduling in Arkansas

Timely irrigation of cotton has been shown to increase yields, but almost every year producers and researchers observe poor plant development even with irrigation under some condition. Adequate moisture must be present when the cotton crop needs it, but saturated soil conditions deprive the roots of necessary oxygen. Current recommendations lack detail concerning irrigation management. Use of t...

Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Crops for Sustainable Agriculture

In this review, we present the recent developments and future prospects of improving nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in crops using various complementary approaches. These include conventional breeding and molecular genetics, in addition to alternative farming techniques based on no-till continuous cover cropping cultures and/or organic nitrogen (N) nutrition. Whatever the mode of N fertilization...

Participatory Irrigation Management and Irrigation Water Use Efficiency in Maize Production: Evidence from Zhangye City, Northwestern China

Water has become increasingly scarce in northwestern China due to climate change, economic growth and burgeoning population. Improving agriculture water use efficiency is of strategic significance in promoting socio-economic water productivity for arid and semi-arid inland river basins. Based on the household-level data collected in Zhangye City, which is located in the middle reaches of Heihe ...
